PAP Smear test:
It is the process of
cervical screening which helps in detecting of Pre-cancerous and cancerous
processes in the cervix ( opening of the uterus or womb). PAP stands for
Papanicolaou test. Any abnormalities in the result, if found, can results in
cervical cancer.
What is the frequency to
undergo?
1. At the age of 21,first screening should be taken,then annually until 30.
2. After 30, If tests results are negative consecutively for 3 years,
screening for every two or three years is sufficient. Unless you are high risk,
the frequency can be increased.
3. Women at their younger age should get the HPV Vaccine to greatly reduce the risk of cervical cancer.
