What are Antioxidants?

Antioxidants

The molecules that help to protect our body by combating cell molecules which are in excess are known as ‘Antioxidants.’   The molecules that are in excess are called ‘Free radicals.’ They are unstable in nature and produce during cell process. They can also come from external sources such as smoking and processed food. These free radicals play a vital role in our body. If the counts of these free radicals are within limit, then there will not be any problem. Excess amount of free radicals will really create the problem.

Will these excess free radicals create a problem?

Free radicals have unstable number of free electrons due to which they try to pull from other molecules to make balance. This will create more unstable molecules, creating a domino effect. Disturbing other molecules may create problem over a period of time but molecules of DNA, if it get disturbed, it will severe problem. To stop happening of this problem, antioxidants come into picture. The antioxidants either produce a produce an electron in order to stabilize or break down and remove the free electron. Our body is having built in enzymes which will act like antioxidants but all the work cannot be done by them. To take part their work, some of the antioxidants should be taken from food.
