Onions contains an antioxidant component
called polyphenols which is the reason for its strong smell and taste. This
component reduces the risk of cancer & other diseases if taken daily.
Especially red onions are good in polyphenols.
Generally we peel off too much
outer layer of the onion, but actually flavonoids tend to be concentrated more
in the outer skin. To maximize the health benefits, peel the dry skin and remain
the maximum portion. Even a small peeling will leads to maximum loss of
flavonoids.
Onions have other health
benefits which reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It increases the
bone strength, anti inflammatory benefits and cancer prevention.
Daily addition of onion will
increase the blood flow in the cells which will improve the sexual life too.
Taking the steam cooked onions will yield good result instead of cooking
completely. Taking raw one is much more beneficiary.
